I agree that it's crucial for the seal to be snug against the lid to prevent water infiltration and subsequent problems with the lid latch. A brand new replacement one is available for about $30 on eBay. It looks exactly the same from the outside. There are several OEM options available for less than $40 that are likely recovered from damaged vehicles.
