I have the 1LT V6 and it always makes a clicking sound when it idles. I thought it would be the air compressor for the A/C but I turn the A/C off completely and the clicking is still there. If you have a V6 does yours make the same sound if so what is it?

Hmm my clicking sounds like the A/C but its not on. Do you know what it could be?

Is the fan still on? I've had cars with noisy fans in the past and you could change the noise with the speed.

I meant the climate control fan. Is that off too or ar you just pushing the AC button to turn it off.

Better yet where is the noise seem to be coming from? Do you hear it while in the car or does it seem to originate under the hood?

I can hear it while it idles and I am sitting in the car but it is coming from under the hood

See I'm not as familiar with the OHC setups. It might be normal valvetrain noise. I know the Hemis (pushrods) have notoriously loud valvetrains and it gives a ticking sound that varys from car to car.

Well my dad seems to think that its the timing belt or fan belt that is causing it, but I dont seem to think so

OHCs usually run a chain. I guess the metal on metal might do that. But you'd think GM would have it quieter so it didn't throw off knock sensor.

Well dan0077 says his V6 doesn't do that so I guess it is just mine :(

I'm sure it isnt' just yours, but if you are concerned run by the dealer and ask them abou it. he might just not do it as much or is used to it. I' have a solid cam in my 68 Camaro so when my wife got the Charger it never fased me that it have valve train noise. Someone brought it up to me and then I later learn it was normal.

Oh well I have to go back to the dealer soon whenever our salesman calls back to schedule my tint. The tint has messed up twice and they have to keep replacing it till they get it right. So while they do that ill tell him about the clicking and have them check it out

thats the best thing. I'm pretty sure it isn't a problem. But I don't know that engine that well and I haven't been around one to hear it either.

With enough money they would have. :str: V6 is a good strting point. You are a lot better off than Andy, Paul, and I were at your age. V6s were dogs not even 4 years ago. You have one that makes similar power to a V8 Mustang. Not too shabby.

Well it definitely doesn't hurt as bad as it used to. I drove a 86 Grand Prix (V6) when I was in high school. Other than the big back seat for me and my girl it had nothing going for it.

Just be safe. Back in my day (Jesus how old am I) my V6 car was the DD. Unassuming and low power. You have neither of those luxuries.

I'm not here to lecture you though. But obviously some of the guys here can provide knowledge if needed. Sometime younger males take it better if not coming from their dads.

Does that mean you are the youngest? :thk:that has something to do with it as well. I think its funny, I keep telling our olest how I remember being in the same situations he gets into. I lay it all out and he bloes me off. The look on his face after what I said will happen, happens. Its funny. I dont' want to have the 'i told you so' moment. But I'm trying to help and he wants to think he knows better.

Did some searching on this. the common answer is the ticking it normal. It is the direct injection. the fuel pump is driven off the cam and there may or may not be sound deadening on it. But all the injectors make a clicking noise. They are under like 1500 lbs of pressure (similar to a diesel truck) and the clicking is it opening and closing.

You should be able to start any V6 Camaro and hear the same noise. Most say it can really be heard with the hood up or going next to a building or something with the windows down.

Oh ok well that makes perfect sense then because I really hear it when I am around other cars and at home by the garage. Thanks Bee for the help on this

I have this same ticking in my V6 and it has been driving me crazy!!! But they told me the same thing that it is normal...... I wish there was a way to silence it.

If its the injection the only way to quiet it is insulation(sp) which would make the engine run hotter. Crack the radio and enjoy the 30MPG
