I have recently installed a Tremec five speed overdrive transmission and Keisler cross member into a 1970 Camaro - originally an automatic car - I added the manula transmissin hump from a four speed 1970. There is a vibration at highway speed which becomes severe as speed increases above 2200 RPM in 5th gear (about 60 mph). I've had tires balanced again, checked all wheels for runout and still there. I noticed that the tailshaft of the transmission is not centered in the tranny tunnel, but is offset about 3/4 inch towards the passenger side of the car. I suspect the vibration may be caused by the front U-joint being at an angle to the driveshaft. Should the tranny be centered in the tunnel? Could the vibration be related to the position of the tranny? Anyone solved a problem like this?

i would think that if the trans and rear arent in line, that would cause vibration problems. i would also make sure the manual cars and the autos used the same driveshaft. they probably do but it never hurts to make sure.
