Well, This month started slow, but now it's ending with a bang. A whole Slew of information has been released about the brand new 2009/2010 Camaro.
I'm making this thread to keep those up to speed with things that have been going on in the last couple of months.
Well, Just today, Bob Lutz (GM Vice Chairman) has revealed plans considering a 2.0 liter turbocharger engine estimated to be around 260 Horse power. Now thats in addition to the V6 and V8 options already announced for the Camaro.
First of all let me state that the official release of the Camaro will be in January of 2009. Thats right the the V6 and V8 will officially hit the streets in January 2009 and will start production this October.
As for the V6 and V8, Alot has been revealed. Enough to create alot more speculation about what engines will be in the car. The V6 is speculated to have around 350 horse power (which is insane considering that a dodge charger r/t has about the same amount of power) and a V8 Camaro Will have 6.0 liter with over 400 horse power.
As for the specifics of the V8 (6.0 liter) many believe (my self included) that the first V8 model in the Camaro will be the L76 engine, The L76 is the engine that is replacing the LS2 Engine. The only car that has a L76 engine in it at this point is the new Pontiac G8 GT. The L76 is also the only 6.0 engine in the GM arsenal. Which makes many think this will be the first v8 offered in the 2009/2010 Chevy Camaro.
8 Months after the release of the V6 and V8 Camaro, Will come the Camaro Convertible. Now from an interview recently released (I will gather all these links up later). It was said that the the V6 and V8 options would run the first 8 months of the Camaro's release. Which leads to the many Rumors and hints of the infamous Z28 Camaro.
Rumor has it, the Z28 is known as the "500 Killer" Aka The GtT500 Killer. Many leaks and hear says have said that the Z28 will have a LS3 Engine dropped into the Platform. Not only that, but it will be supercharged as it's competitor. This is well rumored to come out by the end of summer 2009/early Fall of 2009.
Just in case for those who don't know about this LS3 Engine, it was recently upgraded to a 6.2 liter engine with 430 Horse power and 424 Lbs Of torque. Now thats a non super charged engine, A close friend of my just recently purchased the C6 Vette over a Z06, I wondered why. So a week after picking up the car he put it in the shop and had it tuned and upgraded. All he did was put a new cam shaft in, Sports tune it, with Long tube headers and he was pulling out an impressive 508 to the wheel. Not Total horses, but the wheel. Those three cheap upgrades (a little under 4 grand) had his car running about 66 horses over the z06 to the wheel. NOW THATS IMPRESSIVE! I can't only imagine if he re-drilled the heads, and put intakes in it, and did all the other bigger things to it.
There are many other things about the camaro has, that I would love to share. Buy my eyes are starting to hurt so, I'll update later tonight :)
